Environmental Education is Key

In Our Nature is a natural gardening service and native plant nursery. It’s founder Shaun Booth is on a mission to change the way we see our gardens.

As urbanization consumes remaining natural areas, many native plants and animals are facing decline or extinction. However, one of the biggest issues facing nature is that, as a society, we are increasingly disconnected from it every day. Everything we do at In Our Nature starts with education and re-connecting people with nature because if people feel connected to nature and understand it, then they are more willing to protect it.

We strive to spread this important message through outreach campaigns, social media education and talks/presentations. By educating the public about these issues and inspiring them to take action, there may just be hope for nature in our modern world.

Popular talks:

  • Backyard Pollinator conservation:

Pollinators are essential to our food systems and ecosystems, yet they are facing serious decline. In this talk, we will discuss why pollinators are important, who they are and the role our gardens play in their survival. 45minutes - 1 hour.

  • Native plants 101:

Shaun will provide an introduction to the world of native plants. We will explore what they are, why they are important and how we can all change the world by using them in our gardens. 45minutes - 1 hour.

  • Re-defining Four Season Interest With Native Plants:

In This talk, Shaun will dive deeper into the purpose of our gardens to discuss how interest should go beyond just the plants themselves and seek interest in the wildlife that our native plants are supporting. 45minutes - 1 hour.

  • Edible Native Plant Landscapes:

This talk combines the two most popular topics in gardening right now - native plants and urban agriculture. We will explore how native plants can be used to beautify our gardens while feeding humans and wildlife alike. 45minutes - 1 hour.

  • Native Alternatives to Invasive Garden Plants:

Invasive species are the second biggest threat to biodiversity loss (after habitat destruction), yet so many of them are grown on purpose in gardens. In this talk, Shaun will highlight some of the most common invasive plants in our gardens and how we can replace them with native plants to provide habitat for beneficial wildlife. 45minutes - 1hr.
